Join NZX to learn about the price risk management tools available to manage farmer exposure to fluctuating milk price, what to consider when developing a hedging policy and how to access the futures market.
James will cover the following points in this webinar:
In James’ work, he is responsible for the development, sales and building of liquidity in the SGX-NZX Global dairy futures and options market in New Zealand and internationally. Alongside work, James is passionate about New Zealand’s Agricultural industry, having a continued involvement in the family dairy farming operation based in the mighty Waikato. Admittedly, the number of times the gumboots are put on are pretty slim nowadays.
Jason is born and bred in Taranaki, growing up on a 360-cow dairy farm north of Inglewood. He studied a Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture majoring in Farm Management and Rural Valuation from Lincoln University. He has since completed post graduate diplomas in risk management and a certificate in Behavioural Economics.
In 2017, Jason was fortunate enough to be awarded a Nuffield Scholarship where he investigated the opportunity for NZ food and fibre businesses to sell their products online both to businesses and direct to the consumer. This opportunity gave Jason a clear understanding of our consumers and what they are looking for from their food products and how to brand our products to meet these needs.
A ‘people focused’ leader, Jason has a passion for ensuring the Dairy industry is an attractive industry to work in, is sustainable, competitive globally and maintains a social license within our communities. Currently the General Manager for Dairy Trust Taranaki, Jason is combining both his skillset with his passion. Jason is married to wife Christina and has two children aged 4 and 1 living in New Plymouth.
Currently at Dairy Trust Taranaki across the four farms, trials are underway looking at nitrogen leaching treatment, regenerative agriculture, fertiliser application impact, zero emissions and comparing today's farm system with a potential system a decade in the future.
