The webinar will cover some relevant information/literature on agroforestry internationally and from New Zealand. As well as the agroforestry systems designed for two case study farmers including the economic assessment for each that displays the financial performance of agroforestry within each farm. We will cover off case study farm goals and priorities and how this impacts the design of the agroforestry system, trade-offs and compromises.


Speakers

Kyle Wills
Kyle has been with WSP since 2023 after spending four years at Balance Agri-Nutrients. Previously he attended Lincoln University where he studied a Bachelor of Agricultural science with first class honours. Brought up on a deer, sheep and beef farm in Southland and then Wanaka, Kyle has always had a passion for working with farmers in a technical, theoretical and practical capacity. He has practical and system experience on deer, carbon, sheep and beef, dairy and arable farming systems with an in-depth understanding of fertility management from his previous work.


Sandra Velarde
For more than 20 years, Sandra has worked in national and international organisations, including the New Zealand Climate Change Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Italy, and the World Agroforestry Centre, Kenya. Her expertise is on land-based futures and systems change, indigenous forests, climate change and circular bioeconomy. Sandra holds a PhD from the Australian National University, is a Registered Forestry Consultant of the New Zealand Institute of Forestry and a Registered Forestry Adviser (Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)).
