An opportunity for NZIPIM members to receive an update on progress of a Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures project evaluating regenerative farming principles and developing farmer resilience on a dryland demonstration farm. The project started in autumn 2021 and so this is an opportunity to see what has been achieved over two years and through some challenging seasons. Partners include On-Farm Research, AgFirst Hawke’s Bay, Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Barenburg New Zealand, Ravensdown, AGMARDT and Atkins Ranch.
This project will scientifically test and incorporate new forage management practices and principles of regenerative farming into a dryland sheep and cattle farming system. Regenerative practices such as diverse seed mixtures and longer feed residuals will be compared against conventional farming practices within a dryland system. There is an emphasis on both production and soil carbon. The project will also focus on improving farmer resilience and decision making.
Following the visit and presentation, there will be a networking opportunity. Nibbles will be provided by NZIPIM Hawke's Bay branch. All beverages are BYO.
