This Advanced Greenhouse Gas Training Workshop has been designed for rural professionals wanting to develop the skills and competency to provide in-depth advice and support to dairy farming clients on:

• Estimation of on-farm agricultural greenhouse gas emissions
• Identification of options for managing/reducing those emissions
• Modelling the greenhouse gas impact of those different options for the farm
• Understanding the economic impact of the different options.

Participants will receive hands-on training in how to model different greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios on a series of different dairy farms. A combination of Farmax, OverseerFM and spreadsheeting is used to analyse the impact of different mitigation options, including on farm profitability.

Participants will work in groups of two or three to model different scenarios, ranging from simple to complex. Modelling outcomes will be discussed, working through which scenarios offer the best options for the farmer in terms of climate impact and profitability (also considering nitrate leaching). There will also be time to explore ways to effectively communicate results with farmers.

Participants will be supported by technical experts from AgFirst and Farmax and OverseerFM. Participants must bring their own laptop and are welcome to bring a separate monitor if preferred. There is no charge for attendance and catering is provided.

Please note: this workshop is aimed at dairy-focused rural professionals who are already proficient in Farmax and/or OverseerFM. If you do not have experience with either of these platforms, we recommend you not register at this time.

Government requirements on farmers to understand, manage and report their agricultural greenhouse gas emissions are increasing in the next few years, with a price put on those emissions from 2025. This training workshop is a great opportunity to get a head start on developing some essential skills for supporting farmers to get to grips with climate change.
