With Government's Essential Freshwater reforms in place, Horizons Regional Council are working through new rules for implementation in the district.

Please join us for an update on the reforms by Horizons Regional Council and key areas that rural professionals should be discussing with their farming clients in meeting the new requirements. Topics areas include:

  • Stock exclusion: Clarification of the rules and an updated on Ministry for Environment (MfE) low slope map
  • Overview on National Environment Standards for Freshwater Management (NES-FM), including:
    • Intensive Winter grazing - paddock risk assessment and consent documentation
    • Stock Holding Areas
    • Intensification
    • N-cap reporting
    • Culverts and fish passage regulations
  • Requirements for Freshwater Farm Plans
  • Understanding of Te Mana o te Wai principles and fresh water implications for landowners and iwi/hapu
  • Proposed Plan Change 2 - hearing recommendations and council response

This event provides an opportunity for members to discuss the Essential Freshwater reforms with Horizons Regional Council to better inform and prepare our farming clients on the new rules.
