NZIPIM invites you to hear from leading primary industry professionals from the Wairarapa provide on-farm industry updates in the region and outline key opportunities within the sector.

Chris Garland, Chris Lewis and Fergus Rutherford of BakerAg will be providing an agribusiness update for the lower North Island across the dairy, sheep & beef and rural valuation sectors. They will outline the types of advice they are currently providing their farming clients from both behind and in front of the farm gate, and will also provide their views on what they see happening in their respective areas over the next 6-12 months.

We are also delighted to have Andrew Gibbs, Independent Director and Business Consultant, present at our event. Andrew will be sharing his insights and vision for New Zealand's primary industries in a post COVID-19 world, and how the industry can take advantage of the many opportunities ahead of us.

During the presentations we will be encouraging open straight-talking discussions with our speakers, so don't miss out.

There will also be an opportunity for networking after the presentations.

Speaker Bios

Chris Garland

Chris has been a director and shareholder of the firm since its inception in 1986. Chris is experienced in all aspects of operational farm management, and also has wide experience in strategic planning, HR and governance functions of medium-to-large businesses in the sheep, beef sectors.

Benchmarking and business planning are large components of this work. Chris sits on a number of corporate boards, advisory boards and Research & Development mentor groups. Chris is the Editor of the highly successful AgLetter, which has been in publication since 1986.

Chris Lewis

Chris has a strong interest in farm modelling systems he utilises custom built spreadsheet feed planning tools, UDDER and now Farmax software. He also works very closely with a number of large-scale dairy farming businesses in the financial planning and business building area.

Chris has had various national roles including involvement in the National Reproductive Advisory Group (NRAG) which was a precursor to establishment of the Dairy Incalf program. Chris is fully accredited to deliver DairyBase. He is also a past chairman of the Wellington Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Institute of Primary Industry Management.

Fergus Rutherford

Fergus is a director of BakerAg and completes valuations across all property sectors including rural, residential, lifestyle, commercial and industrial. He is also heavily involved in compensation assessments for public works, particularly in the electricity industry. He has been commissioned by corporate entities to complete due diligence projects on farm portfolio sales and acquisitions.

Andrew Gibbs

Andrew is a retired Partner of Deloitte NZ and was their leader of the Primary Sector for over 10 years with a predominant focus on working with the sector to address their growth and regulatory challenges. He joined Deloitte in 1986 and his work experience includes long-term postings with Deloitte's international firm in London, Poland, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East.

Andrew is now an Independent Director and business consultant, providing a range of services in the agriculture and fisheries sectors. Andrew also contracts to Deloitte.
