During a recent farmer consultation meeting in Ashburton on Government's proposal to raise water quality standards, 350 farmers in attendance said they all want better water quality. So how do we achieve this goal without being lost in a world of noise.

Please join us as we cut through the noise and hear about the practical things that farmers are doing to reduce nitrogen loss to the environment in the Canterbury region. This event is not about regulation or politics, but rather we will look at what is being done by some of our leading farmers in improving water quality, and how these practices could be picked up by your clients.

Agenda:

  • Framing it up the discussion
  • What does good water quality look like on-farm and how are we placed in Canterbury - Tim Davie (ECan, chief scientist) and Justin Kitto (DairyNZ, water quality specialist)
  • Sustainable Futures in Selwyn and Hinds - supporting farmers to meet environmental obligations while optimising the profitability of the farm system - Virginia Serra (DairyNZ)
  • What do we know today about reducing N leaching & Nitrous Oxide - Ina Pinxterhuis (Senior Scientist, DairyNZ)
  • Farmer panel - discussing farming practices to reduce N leaching
