Due to unforeseen circumstances the 'Benefits of Irrigation on Intensive Finishing/Mixed Cropping Farm' has been deferred. In place of this event the Canterbury Branch Committee has arranged for a visit at Ngai Tahu Dairy Farms for the same day. Please note that start time has been delayed until 1.30 pm.

Venue: Ngai Tahu Dairy Farms - meeting point is at Kokomuka Lodge (formally Eyre Lodge), 567 Poyntzs Road, Eyrewell Forest.

The programme for the afternoon is:

  • Introduction and overview of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu and of Ngai Tahu Farming.
  • Farm tour (transport courtesy of the Lincoln University student buses) en route to Kohakaumu dairy farm.
  • What best practice looks like for Ngai Tahu
    • Pasture based farm management
    • Environmental management and mitigation
    • Farm systems - Synlait Lead with Pride.
  • Return to Kokomuka Lodge for afternoon tea.
  • Wrap-up session on what next for Ngai Tahu Farming and the Waimakariri zone.

This will be a good opportunity for the Rural Professionals and students to network; discuss life beyond university and taking the first steps into careers over tea and coffee.
